Twig Morphology: Scars

scars are useful marks for identification that remain on a twig once a part of the plant falls off

Leaf Scars the mark remaining at the point of attachment of a leaf following abscission
Vascular Bundle Scars small dots within a leaf scar that show where strands of vascular tissue passed from a twig to a leaf
Stipular Scars paired scars above and to either side of a leaf scar caused by abscission of the stipules
Bud Scale Scars marks left by terminal bud scales falling off when the terminal bud opens
